Eucalyptus trees are stunning with a silver blue-green leaves on long sturdy branches. Even the peeling bark has a unique appearance, creating an overall attractive style to it. It is almost as if the eucalyptus tree is inviting you to learn more about its wonders, and if you are here, you've noticed the special qualities it possesses. 

Eucalyptus is native to Australia and if often believed to be why the koala bear is constantly sleeping. The more common name affiliated with eucalyptus is gum tree (kino). There are various genus types to help with the gum production from eucalyptus including: Corymbia citriodra syn. (lemon scented), E. Stagigeriana (lemon ironbark), E. raditat (fruity scent), and E. Dives (smells like peppermint). None of these are used for the medicinal purposes though. For herbal medicine, we will focus on Eucalyptus Globulus. 

Eucalyptus Globuslus is a strong plant that needs a sunny place to call home. We grow it here in Florida and Tennessee to provide some different zone range insight. It needs regular watering while establishing its roots and initial growth years. Most bugs will stay away from eucalyptus trees because of a distaste from the oil's scent. This is why eucalyptus is often connected to being a natural bug repellent. But they are susceptible to fungal diseases and attack by beetles. 

We harvest eucalyptus to prepare our leaves for steam distillation. It requires a lot of leaves to produce pure eucalyptus essential oil -pounds in fact! You can still reason amazing benefits directly from the leaves themselves too by adding them to salves or in your shower. 

The most important properties of eucalyptus to know are antiviral and antibacterial nature in its chemical makeup. These properties are what Flying with Air has coined as the Three C's to Eucalyptus. 

Eucalyptus helps its consumer with:

• Cold Sores
• Congestion (Catarrhal)
• Cough

Because of this eucalyptus is often connected to helping the respiratory system. But also used for headache relief, a natural bug repellent, reduce pain, help heal dry skin, and fight infections. 

You shouldn't use eucalyptus if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
